CHICAGO – State Senator Lakesia Collins held a neighborhood block party Friday at the 5th Senate District office to celebrate the community and join in for some family fun.
“I am so thankful to the people I work with day in and day out who strive to bring something meaningful to our community,” said Collins (D-Chicago). “Seeing community members join each other in a fun celebration reminds us how close we are and how when we all come together, we can make big things happen.”
The neighborhood block party was made possible thanks to collaboration from Lateshia Jackson, founder of A&L Youth and Family Services, and Terry Young, founder of Black Men United.
Senator Collins also extends her gratitude to her colleagues, community leaders and partners who came to support including: Mayor Brandon Johnson, Alderwoman Monique Scott, State Rep. Yolonda Morris, Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor, Barbara Deer, Alderman Mike Rodriguez, Jimmy Gaither, UI Health, Boxing Out Negativity, Lindsay Italian Ice, BBF Center for the Arts, Rite to Wellness, Extreme Game Truck and Thomas Finch.
“Thank you to everyone who attended our summer block party, and a special thanks to all those involved in making this possible and showing up for the 5th District,” said Collins. “I am proud of my district and I am so hopeful for all that we can achieve together.”
Senator Collins is committed to continue creating spaces for young people to have a safe environment and enjoy their summer.
